Football Club, Manchester United, have condoled with families of their fans who lost their lives at a viewing center in Calabar, Cross River state on Thursday.
While several reactions have trailed the tragic incident, the club took to twitter on Friday, saying:
“Our thoughts go out to the United fans, their friends and families affected by the tragedy in Calabar, Nigeria, yesterday.”
The football fans were said to have assembled at the center to watch a UEFA Europa League quarter-final match between Manchester United and Anderlecht on satellite television.
Eyewitnesses put the number of the dead at 30, with the state government claiming seven, while one of the hospitals where the some of the bodies were taken to acknowledged receiving eight bodies.
Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, has also expressed shock and sadness over the occurrence and has prayed that God grants the grieving families comfort.
